Organization
We are a membership type, non-profit educational organization named officially named “The Northwest Montana Posse of Westerners.” The organizational structure is similar to a corporation with a clearly defined chain of leadership and described responsibilities but the standard corporate titles will be replaced with a cowboy or fur trade slang; i.e., the President will be called a Sheriff, the Vice Presidents will be called a Deputy Sheriffs, Clerk of the Posse for the Secretary-Treasurer, a Committee Chairperson are called Wranglers, etc. Other terminology, such as historically accurate slang, may be used as needed.
Our organizational chart has been drafted as a guideline into which we can grow. It reflects a management objective of having as many people as possible performing small, manageable, well defined tasks within a larger plan improving the overall effectiveness of the organization. The overall intent is for the most number of people to have fun and still share in the accomplishments of Posse’s mission statement.
The Board of Directors has 5 to 8 voting members: Sheriff (President); three Deputy Sheriffs (Vice Presidents) for programs, membership, information/media/publications; and Clerk of the Posse (Secretary-Treasurer). Different Representatives (Rep’s) may be appointed in the future.
A Honorary Board is to include the Presidents of many of the different non-profit museums and historical organizations in Northwest Montana. Presenters at our educational meetings during the past 12 months will also be eligible to be Honorary Board members.
